I haven't been doing many (any?) book reviews lately, mainly because I don't have much time for them. But when the offer to review Spice Up Your Life the Flexitarian Way, it caught my eye. I's a cookbook influenced heavily by Indian cooking with recipes that are primarily vegetarian. Since I'm basically vegetarian and have recently discovered that I adore Indian food, this book was right up my alley!
Author Bindu Grandhi says she was inspired by her mother and grandmother to write her own cookbook, and she drew on her experiences with their cooking, combined it with her own knowledge of a diet that includes lean meats and fish and created this Indian-inspired, full of flavor flexitarian cookbook.
Spices abound in these recipes - cardamom, cumin, cinnamon, chili powder, garam masala, cloves, turmeric. The ingredients are often simple - lentils, black beans, chickpeas - but when combined with flavorful sauces and cooked up in spicy sautes the results are mouthwatering!
There are recipes for appetizers, side dishes, chutneys and other sauces, breads, drinks and desserts, along with chapters devoted to vegetarian, chicken and seafood dishes. The first ones I'd like to try include Red Lentils with Tofu , Chickpeas and Spinach and Black Beans in Tomato Sauce. Add some rice or or flatbread and dinner is served!

p.s. I tried the seasoned kale for New Year's Eve and it was delicious!
