Welcome to DivaTribe

A diva accepts herself as she is right now and strives to be even better.
She doesn't change who she is to fit someone else's idea of what she ought to be.
She reaches for her own ideal sense of whom she wants to be.
She's strong; she's courageous; she's creative.

Articles, How-To's and Interviews - Spirit and Spa
Written by Jennifer Thompson

I am currently trying to limit my sugar intake.  From Halloween through Valentine's Day it seems as though there is a constant march of sugar into the house, and at some point, I have to say enough is enough when it comes to how much I consume.  But giving up sugary treats  altogether is proving to be difficult, and I'm having to figure out strategies to meet my goal of stringing together some sugar-free days.  Below are some of the tactics I am trying.  I think they apply to just about any kind of goal, whether it's starting a business, meditating on a daily basis, losing weight, earning a degree or any other goal one might have.

1.  Keep a journal of your progress.

Keeping a written record of your progress and setbacks will give you feedback, help you identify obstacles and assistants and help keep you conscious of your goal.  You can journal on paper or in a blog online, whichever feels easiest and most convenient.

2.  Tell someone else about your goal.

Sharing your goal with someone else makes it more real and gives you a sense of accountability.  The person you share with may never ask you how you're doing, but sometimes just knowing that someone "out there" knows about your efforts is enough to add a new level of commitment!  Whether you share your goal with someone in real life or on an Internet message board, find someone safe to tell.

3.  Find inspirational books and articles to read.

A trip to the library or bookstore, or a search on the Internet may turn up good reading that will help you keep your goal in mind and your efforts on track.  Whether it's a how-to or something inspirational, a good read can boost your morale and your enthusiasm.

4.  Plan a reward for reaching short-term and long-term goals.

Beyond the satisfaction of reaching your goal (which is reward in and of itself!), it can be motivating to have a reward or two along the way to look forward to.  Just be sure that your reward doesn't sabotage your efforts, and make sure you go through with your planned reward once you reach your goal!

5.  Visualize yourself achieving your goal.

Try spending a few moments picturing yourself at the finish-line of your journey.  What do you look like?  How do you feel?  What are you doing that you can't do today?  How has your life improved as a result of achieving this goal?
