Articles, How-To's and Interviews - DIY and How-To's
Written by Jennifer Thompson
In an effort to learn to knit in the round using double pointed needles, I decided to make another pair of leg warmers for my daughter.  At the rate things are going, she'll have a pair for every day of the week between me and my mom.   The pair I've made feature 2x2 ribbing at the top and bottom, with straight knittting for the body of the leg warmer.  My mom made a pair that was 2x2 ribbing the whole way up.  Hers are much snugger; mine work up much faster.  You choose which one you want to try.   My daughter is about 45" tall, and the leg warmers go just past her knee.

Knit leg warmers

LionBrand Microspun YarnMaterials I Used:
4 size 3 double-pointed needles
Lion Brand "Microspun" yarn

From Lion Brand, regarding gauge:
Knit:  24 St sts + 32 rows = 4" (10 cm) on size 4 (3.25mm) needles

Cast on 33 st.  I cast on in purl for these.
K2 P2 around until ribbing is as long as you want it.  I aimed for about 2.5 inches.
Knit around until body is as long as you'd like.  Mine are about 9  inches long.
K2 P2 so that top ribbing is as long as you want it.  I made both ribbings the same so that the leg warmers could be put on from either end.

If you want them to be ribbed the entire length of the leg warmer, just K2 P2 for the entire project.  My mom worked with sock yarn and size 2 needles.
