Flowers:
You can save all your flower arrangements and dry them or simply buy new flowers to use for your potpourri. Any and all flowers can be used, it depends on your personal taste and don't worry about your flowers not being fragrant enough because you can use oils to get the desired aroma.
Herbs: thyme, rosemary, mint or anything else you have in your herb garden or cupboard. Spices can add wonderful scents as well such as cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.
Once you have your assortment of flowers, herbs and spices make sure they are dried well. To easily dry herbs and flowers hang them upside down for about a week.
Once you've decided on a mix of assorted dried goods, shake them all together with your scented oil. You should store your potpourri in an airtight container for a week or so to let the aroma sink in to the mix.
Simply display your potpourri however you like and decorate with baskets, ribbons or place them in a decorative bowl. For added color, try cedar chips and brush them with paint to suit your arrangement.
*Tip:
If by any chance you discover bugs in you potpourri simply freeze the mixture in your freezer overnight and you won't have a problem any more.
Have fun, potpourri makes a wonderful gift, and it is an easy, creative thing to do.
