The Bitch in the House, edited by Cathi Hanauer
The Bitch in the House combines a compilation of stories from women on all walks of life. Mostly written by literary authors these stories delve in the lives, minds and bedrooms of normal, every day woman trying to express themselves.
Whether a woman has married out of desire, want or need these are the voices screaming out about their angst, their frustrations - martyred outlook on lives and possible facing a decision of regret.
It's easy to get caught up into these stories and while they might not all mirror circumstances in your life certainly small parts do. It's nice to know you're not alone with feelings of dread and the overwhelming sensation of balancing married life, with kids and possibly careers. I've met more women through these stories who struggled with their decisions on staying home, or not staying home or doing both with such abandon that families don't know which month will hold what.
The Bitch in the House welcomes readers into all aspects of these women's lives. What their struggles are and what works or doesn't work. The writers ranging from their 20's to 60's in all walks of life from marriage to single mom to divorced or married to their professions talk candidly and give voice to successful women today.
This book is angry, touching with bittersweet happiness. Loves lived and loves lost. The Bitch in the House overcomes us all but through support of knowing we're not alone it's time to tame the beast or at least pull up a dinner chair for it.
"The writing is superb: smart, sassy and honest -oh, are they honest- in this must-read for every woman." - Booklist
"The great thing about The Bitch in the House... is knowing how many of us are out there...This book with have a place on the bedside table-if you don't throw it as somebody first." -O, The Oprah Magazine
