Everything You Pretend To Know And Are Afraid Someone Will Ask, by Lynette Padwa
I picked up this book to add to my collection of useless (or useful) facts I'd like to arm myself with.
I was thoroughly entertained by Padwa's witty and barebones explanations of topics ranging from government (what does the vice-president do?)
~~to psychology (what is our id, ego and superego?)
~~to healthy curiosity (what is a quantum leap?).
These are fun, invaluable explanations of terms and topics that we may think we know but would have a hard time explaining to friends and family. Reading this book was a great mind exercise and will provoke you to think a little deeper on some of the subjects. Not to mention the scholarly vocabulary that is broken down and explained will enable you to pepper conversations with such words as Ipso Facto and Quid Pro Quo and really sound like you know what you're talking about.
Don your reading classes and glass of wine and sit back to enjoy the first installment of intro to the basics, 101.
A great gift for young students and old scholars alike!
--you can fool some of the people some of the time- but wouldn't you rather really know what you're talking about?
