Living
Juicy: Daily Morsels For Your Creative Soul,
by SARK
Review by Jennifer Thompson
I was going through my bookshelves the other day and came across a book
that I hadn't flipped through in a while - Living Juicy, by SARK. So
I took it off my shelf, sat down on my window seat and let myself get
absorbed into the book. I remembered just how much this book had helped
me several years ago when I was feeling very depressed about my job
and life in general and struggling to keep from slipping back into some
destructive eating disordered behaviors.
This is a fun, colorful, inspiring, comforting book for anyone who is
looking for ways to make each day a little bit better. Living Juicy
is a collection of 365 different ideas, suggestions and meditations
to help you tend to your creative and sensitive self. You have to see
this book to fully appreciate it. SARK has hand-written and illustrated
the entire book in vibrant colors and in her own unique script.
Some of the pages I have earmarked in this well-loved book include
-
April
3: Write HUGE enormous letters
-
August
11: Permission to surprise!
-
October
11: Changing Circumstances
-
October
26: Allowing the Moment
-
October
29: Re-creating Yourself
-
November
2: Creating Bliss
-
November
15: Asking for a Miracle
Each day/page
offers suggestions for ways to live a happier, more creative, more fulfilled,
more creative life. Just reading SARK's introduction feeds the soul:
"Living
juicy is: Jumping for joy in the inside! In the midst of our daily lives,
we must find the juice to nourish our creative souls. If we rush around,
never look closely, or practice self-denial, we will begin to feel dry
and cracked, for the lack of sweet, wild moments that elevate us, and
those around us. The name for this is Living Juicy."
This isn't
a book that you simply read - this is a book that you DO. The day-by-day
format makes it easy to put suggestions into play, and you don't have
to follow the book in any certain order. If a particular day's entry
speaks to you, then go for it!
I'm glad that
I've rediscovered this book. I think we can all use a little more
time in our lives to search for those wild, sweet moments.
