I have heard a value before of how much a person should spend per person per day each meal and read part of that here... I can\'t find it back, but it said: Breakfast=$.50 per person and Diner= $4-5 total.  Is that $4-5 to feed the whole family?

I am just wanting a good \"rule of thumb\" for how much to budget for groceries on a per person basis.

Any idea?

Thanks!

It was this article.

One simple approach to meal planning is setting a price goal for each meal. For example: Breakfast = $0.50 per person, Dinner = $3 - $4 total.

I think she\'s giving examples of how one could set budgets per person or per meal.

One thing I\'ve been doing is keeping track of all food spending and then calculating what we\'re spending per day on average.  I track both groceries and dining out, total it up and divide by the number of days. Seeing the total is interesting, but seeing the daily average is also interesting, to me anyway.

Right now my family of three averages somewhere between $13 and $14 per day, and I\'d like to see that come down to about $12/day.

Welcome to DivaTribe, by the way.   diva

Thanks!

I had remembered Jonni McCoy had mentioned it when I heard her speak at the Hearts at Home conference a few years ago.  I thought I even had a tape, but I need to find it.

I\'ll post some of the highlights if I locate it!
