I realize I have been totally MIA here for ages. I've checked in to see how everyone is doing, but have not taken the time to bring you all up to date on my status.

In late March, I came down with a really nasty viral Flu, possibly H1N1. After 4 days of power puking, and a fever of 103, I became severely dehydrated. While nothing else would stay down, the "recommended dosage" of Tylenol & Nyquil I took built up to toxic levels. This caused acute Tylenol poisoning, which then caused my Liver to fail.

I was put at the top of the transplant list, but then I bled out and went in to a coma, and was not expected to survive the night. I spent the next 17 days in a coma, received several transfusions, and by some grace of God, my Liver started to heal. I was completely immobilized, and pumped with fluids, in the Transplant ICU for another 2 weeks, but fortunately did not have to get a Liver transplant.

Being immobilized and swollen with over 50 lbs. of fluids for weeks, I lost all muscle control. Once I was medically stable, I went in to a nursing home where I re-learned basic functions like walking again. When I came home, I had weeks of home-care nurses and Physical therapy.

I am still doing intensive out-patient Physical Therapy, and am getting closer to a full recovery everyday, and I hope to return to work in about 2 weeks or so. So thats the last 3 months of my life in a nutshell!

I've missed the boards, and will try to stay more current! I hope everyone is doing well!

Thanks ladies! Things were going really well, I had stepped up my PT, and was looking at trying to go back to work on the 14'th.

Then, last week I was rear-ended while sitting at a red light!  pulling hair My Dr. had warned me to be careful of any sort of impact to my stomach while I am recovering, so I went to the ER to make sure the seatbelt didn't cause any further damage. Fortunately, everything checked out ok, besides leaving me really sore and shaken up.

Then, today, I was on my way to the Dr. for my post accident check, and suddenly my right leg went numb, and I fell down the steps leading down to my driveway.  hammer I was able to pitch myself backward so that I didn't go head first - I would definitely been seriously injured had I gone forward. But I wound up landing on my back and skinned right arm on the block steps pretty badly.

I am so sore and frustrated! I have spent the day on the couch with ice packs and my laptop. Now I'm going to miss PT again tomorrow because my back is killing me.

Ugh! I really wish whoever keeps sicking pins in the voodoo doll wold stop! I swear if I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all!

Wow, I can't believe another whole month has passed. Since then, I have had another bizarre health problem - one that may finally answer for all of the conditions I've dealt with over the past 9 years or so.

While I was recouping from everything else I started to have a problem with my eyers. At first I just though it was allergies, they were red & itchy, and I couldn't wear my contact lenses. Then I noticed my eyesight was really blurry even with my glasses on, so I went to the Eye Dr.

I had Iritis - its an inflammation of the Iris which causes the pupils to distort & stick to the lens of the eye. It was so weird - when I used the dilating drops - it looked like I had 2 pupils in each eye because the Irises were so mis-shapen!

For 3 weeks I had to use dilating and steroid drops every 2 hours. I couldn't tolerate light and my vision was too distorted to drive or read - it was Hell!

This condition is is an auto-immune reaction, and is usually a symptom of a specific auto-immune disease. For years I have had strange things happen - sudden hearing loss, skin problems, joint pain, thyroiditis then the liver failure. The Dr's have said I had a "non-specific auto-immune disorder" before, but now they feel confident that Lupus is the underlying issue that has caused so many bizarre health problems over the years. I was tested for it several years ago, but its very hard to diagnose and requires several tests because there is not one conclusive test for it.

That would also explain why my white blood cell count was sky high when my Liver failed, and how I was predisposed to the Tylenol poisoning when I hadn't exceeded the normal dosage, and had no pre-existing Liver damage or problems.

On one hand, it is a relief to finally have a diagnosis, there were times over the years where I felt like I was nuts, or the pain was all in my head. While Lupus is scary, it is manageable.
