Did anyone else read an article about a recent study regarding how much aerobic exercise women need to maintain their weight?

The 60-minute-a-day recommendation, released online Tuesday in the Journal of the American Medical Assn., is aimed at women of normal weight who don't want to diet but do want to avoid gaining weight over time. Most Americans gain about 1.5 pounds a year between age 25 and 55.

I think there's been some level of discussion as to what "moderate" activity constitutes.  Still, it's a pretty significant chunk of time.  I'll be curious to see what other studies and results come out of this one.

It makes sense.  I am keeping up with my yoga classes. I try to go at least 3-4x a week.   It's hard sometimes to get there because of DH's schedule.

They are going to be doing a 20-class a month challenge in May.  I don't know if I will be able to get to that many classes each week but I will try hard!

Go for it!  Even if you don't make it to 20 you'll still get in a lot of classes! big grin

I am definitely going to try.

On the days I don't go, I still try to do something active even if it's just walking up and down to my basement to do laundry or cleaning the house.

I also like to walk around my office a lot to get the blood moving during the work week.

It sounds like a lot, but I think it's probably an accurate representation of what needs to happen for most American women to maintain a normal, healthy weight.

I think so too.  If moderate activity includes going for a daily walk and all the other things that make one more active (taking stairs, parking further away, getting off the bus one or two stops earlier, biking instead of driving a short distance, etc) then 60 minutes really isn't that much.
