Good luck with it!  diva

I've been using SparkPeople again for about 10 months now, to manage my weight as I sense my metabolism slowing shocked and to work on my eating and exercising habits.  I think my dietary habits have really improved a lot over the last ten months as a result.  I feel much healthier overall and am much more aware of portion sizes and getting proper amounts of all ind of nutrients and such.

Down 1.6 lbs. the first week.  yippee  That includes eating too much at the Super Bowl party, so I feel good about it.  I can't wait to see how I do this week with more exercise!  big grin  We've got 3 Mardi Gras parties, though, so I'm a bit  shocked

Just an update to say I've lost a total of 3.6 lbs., averaging 1.2 lbs./week.  I'm so excited!  yippee  I managed to lose even though I had to eat at restaurants, Mardi Gras parties, etc.  Hooray!

good job!

I need to do something to get my weight under control. I'm a "yoyo dieter" and i hate it. I need to find something i can stick too. I love the idea of the south beach diet... i did it before i stuck to it for about a year, then i thought it would be okay to cheat here and there and gained all the weight back, plus some.

I think that's the problem with most diets - they aren't a lifestyle that can be maintained, so you find yourself "cheating" and end up where you started.  I think the trick is to develop a lifestyle that allows you to lose weight and then maintain it through a healthy, well-balanced diet and regular exercise.

Any great tips to share?  Is this mainly through dietary changes, or are you exercising too?  Have you given up anything in particular?

I am so happy to be doing Weight Watchers.  The program allows you to eat a certain amount of "points" every day.  The point values of food/drinks are calculated by a formula of calories/fat/fiber.  The online tools for WW has an extensive database, but as long as you know those three things, you can calculate the point value of anything.

Different people need different points based on age, gender, height, and weight.  Nothing is off limits; as long as it fits in your points.  You figure out pretty quickly that vegetables are a very important component since they are zero point foods!  No depravation; no crazy diet ideas.  Eating real food, every day.  Exercise is part of it, but I'm not doing as much as I should - yet!
