DH bought a 9mm handgun for protection. Our shop is located at the end of an Industrial Center, right along the railway. At night, the Industrial Park turns in to a ghost town except for the crazy people who fish in the river across the street, drug users, and other people looking for trouble - and us - the only on-call service garage in the area!

Recently, there have been several robberies in the area where our shop is. A few weeks ago, someone stole 200 scrap batteries we had outside, and attempted to steal parts from cars parked in our lot. As the economy gets worse, so is the crime in our area.

DH also goes on a lot of road calls, in bad areas. Many times, I am at the shop, alone.

Our boys both have & know how to shoot, their .22 rifles (training for the bigger rifles they will use to hunt.)

So anyway, last weekend, we all went to the shooting range -  I had never even held a loaded gun before! DH and the boys have gone many times - I was amazed at how good they are!

At first, I was so nervous I could not hit the target. The 9 mm. Glock has quite a kick, and I was holding it very firmly. DS told me I was hesitating too much when I pulled the trigger, and it was making me shoot the ground instead of the target. I followed his advice - and every shot after that I hit the target!

I am still apprehensive about the gun, but I want to know how to use if I ever have to. So, I am taking a ladies handgun class being offered at the local Sportsman's club next month.

The people whose camp we stayed at last weekend also own 200 acres, near the camp, where they have a private shooting range. So, everyone brought their guns, ammo, and ear protection & we had  a nice shooting practice.

The boys were shooting rifles & shotguns - practicing for hunting season, while us girls were shooting semi-automatic pistols - practicing for self-defense we hopefully will never need to use.

Our friend is the daughter of a state trooper, who taught her how to shoot as a kid. She saw I was having  trouble consistently hitting the target, so she showed me the grip her Dad taught her. It was so much better than the one my sister had taught me - after that, I was right on target with every shot!

I am taking a ladies pistol class on Saturday, to learn to shoot more accurately, and to learn how to safely clean, load, and handle a gun as well as be able to safely clear a jammed bullet.

Our military friends are all applauding us for "using our 2'nd amendment rights." DH & DS have guns & practice shooting to hunt the over-populated Deer in our county - for food.

I bought a handgun for protection. Our shop has already been burglarized, the neighborhood is getting worse with the economy, and if it happens again, I have no doubt the junkie thieves will try to rape and/or kill me, and I am not taking any chances.

I never really put much thought in to the whole issue of 2'nd amendment rights... Now, as a law abiding citizen and business owner, I strongly believe I should have that right.
