We're supposed to close on our house today, but it's looking like that won't happen.  In the 11th hour, the HOA questioned the building permits for an addition that was done in 1981.  There's nothing I can do to make this go faster.  sad  I am really bummed.  We've had several road bumps, including a big financial one, and I thought we were in the clear.  Now I can't even get my realtor or mortgage person to call me back.  Of course, it's Friday so I'm sure people are winding down early for the weekend.

We had a similar situation and it worked out fine. The town couldn't locate the permit for either the garage or the addition that was built on the house. I can't remember which one. But the seller had it, so it all worked out.

The seller's attorney is now battling it out with the HOA attorney and all we can do is wait.  Meanwhile, every day that goes by is a day I lose to work on the house before we have to be out of our rental.  It is beyond frustrating.  sad

***Breathe***. Trust me, nothing is going to go "as planned" when you finally do become a homeowner---especially anything related to repairs on the house!

It's taken DH all summer to get even partially through our Master bedroom. And he DOES this stuff for a living.

I am so sorry you are dealing with this, I know firsthand how crushing and frustrating closing problems are.

Our house was being sold by a Relo company, who decided to inform us the day before our closing that the previous owners had 3 mortgages on the house (exceeding our purchase price by $42,000), no other assets, and were on the brink of bankruptcy. At the time I was 8 months pregnant, we had already signed an agreement to sublet our condo, and were about to become homeless, just as DS was starting kindergarten! It was a nightmare!

Our lawyer threatened everyone involved with breach of contract and misrepresentation lawsuits, so the previous owners agreed to let us move in, while the banks & lawyers tried to sort the title out. We wound up "squatting" for over a year, and then finally bought the house from the bank once they Foreclosed. It was a PITA, but eventually we got our house.

Anyway, Alli is right -  try to BREATHE! Everyone I know has had some sort of unwelcome surprise when buying a home.

Things will work out for you.  heart
