DS started his first High School age Lacrosse camp today.

I signed him up because I just thought it would be great opportunity for DS to be coached by real College Coaches. I didn't realize it is such a huge deal for College recruiting - High School boys flew in from all over the country to attend, the entire Ohio Weslyn University LAX team is there, and College recruiters from all over the country will be there every day. I had no idea that Colleges actually start conditioning and recruiting LAX players as young as the 9'th grade!

DS is the ONLY player from his team who went, and he doesn't know anyone there! I realize now how independent he is - I would NEVER have been brave enough to do that!

It was so weird getting him settled in to a Dorm room at the University I went to! Fortunately, his roommate is also 14 - I was afraid he'd wind up rooming with a 17 or 18 year old!  eek

He started getting really nervous though once he saw the Ohio State LAX team at the food court! He said" OMG! Mom, do you see how huge they are? I'm gonna get creamed!" He was trying so hard not to let his nerves show. I told him he didn't have to stay, but he wasn't hearing that! I felt sort of like I was throwing him to wolves when I left campus.   sad I know he will be fine, and the University is 10 minutes from here, but it is still so hard to let him go! DH said "Cut the Cord already!"  dry

It's a big step!   I bet he'll improve - and grow - by leaps and bounds this week. smile

I think the camp was a really good experience for him! The older players were really helpful and informative, and treated the younger guys well.

At the end of camp, they had a big all camp playoff game. It was so cool to see DS holding his own, and playing with college freshmen!

During the nightly team meetings, the coaches talked to the players a lot about building confidence & responsibility. Since DS has been home, he has been showing so much growth in both his confidence and his ability to behave responsibly!  yippee
