Welcome to DivaTribe

A diva accepts herself as she is right now and strives to be even better.
She doesn't change who she is to fit someone else's idea of what she ought to be.
She reaches for her own ideal sense of whom she wants to be.
She's strong; she's courageous; she's creative.

So DS and I took our first Judo lesson last Tuesday and I am sooooo sore!!!  I have to tell you that it feels good though!

The struggle to pull out of my latest bout of post-partum depression has been extremely difficult.  Basically, life sucks and I need to deal with it.  A family friend has his daughter in Judo and she has really blossomed into a self-confident young lady...it is truly inspiring.

My own depression is hard enough to deal with, but I see the same pattern of self-doubt and melancholy in my 8 yr. old son.  It just rips my heart in two to see him struggle.  I want to give him the tools to deal with life in a ways I never had access to.

So...back to Judo.  It is a Japanese Martial Art that does not involve hitting.  One must rely on technique and physics to overcome an opponent.  Basically, smarts over strength, and I am happy to say that my DS is thrilled!!!  I am thrilled also because at 43 and 50 lbs. overweight, I am welcomed into a sport that will not only help to gain physical fitness, but challenge the mind and soul.

If any other Divas have experience with Judo, please share.  I will update as my journey continues.  In the mean time...OUCH! Judo is a better workout than any aerobics class that I have ever been to!!!

One of my friend's enrolled in karate after she had her son and she loves it. She says it really does wonders for her. I was actually going to check it out myself and then found out that I was expecting, so guess I have to wait!!

When my brother hit his mid 30's his formerly super metabolism came to a screeching halt, and he gained 30 lbs! He started Judo & fell in love with it! He lost the weight & gained a new activity! I remember him complaining about being very sore the first few weeks too, don't worry, once your body gets over the initial shock, it wont hurt so much!  not worthy
