It's a fishy blanket!
I found a free knitting pattern for fish that you then sew together (interlocking)...they were showing it in a multitude of bright colors, but, given Ale's fascination with our own fish tank, and the fact that she even wrote a story about our 1 red fish  in a fish tank full of tan-colored fish(Ojo Rojo, the New Fish), I was thinking about finding a nice multi-tone tan yarn and making tons of tan fishies, and making just one bright red fish! - wouldn't THAT be great? After all, it would be a very "grown-up" color, which means she would be able to keep using it as she grows and, it will always remind her of her beloved childhood pets!

I can't find the original link, with the multi-colored fish, but I did find this one http://www.rubber-ducky.net/blog/archives/2005_07_01_archive.html (I printed out the instructions yesterday, then lost the link!)

given the (lack of) availability of yarns here in ES, I had to settle for a very pale coral, beige, and a multi-colored yarn with beige and coral for the "other" fishies, and will use the bright red for Ojo Rojo! ...it looks good!

I started - finally - a blanket today for which I've had the yarn for well over a month now.

That blanket is just darling! Good luck getting it finished up smile

I wonder if you couldn't just knit the fishies in strips and then only have to do several long joins instead of all the little ones? Looks like a fun project.
