Welcome to the tribe, and hugs to you.

I've had some career counseling, and done a lot of reading and self-testing. Basically, they can help you on a journey of self-discovery, and when you know what you want they can point you in the right direction.
I bet that answering some of these questions for yourself
(offline, these are private just for you) might help point you in the right direction:
1. What type of work did you do before?
2. Was it just a job or did you feel like it was a career?
3. What job that you have had was your favorite and why?
4. If money was not an issue, what would you want to do each day?
5. What are your hobbies? Can any of those become a career?
If you have not taken a Myers-Briggs personality Type Indicator (MBTI), I find it's fairly good at narrowing down career fields to look into.
Official versions of the test have to be given by a counselor, and you pay to take them, but unofficially you can read some of the MBTI books and get a good idea of what you prefer.
Here's a site that I really like for an intro to MBTI:
http://www.personalitypathways.com/MBTI_intro.html You can always read the wikipedia entry on it (rather dry).
When you have time for some fun, there's a really neat site that looked at MBTI type and outdoor activity preferences here:
http://www.superiortrails.com/research-report.html. I was fascinated to learn that others in my type category have (like me) a strong preference for canoe over kayak.
