I had an abnormal pap a few months ago, so we did a re-test (both pap and HPV). It's abnormal again. The good news: no cancer cells in the sample. The bad news: I have HPV. I will go in for a colposcopy in about a month so they can take a look at my cervix via the microscope. If they see anything of concern at that time they'll biopsy it. I've been reading a lot about HPV, abnormal squamous cells, etc. I think it will probably be fine, but I'll feel a whole lot better after the colposcopy confirms that!

HPV is actually very common. It's so small it can go through condoms.
From what I hear, often it goes away by itself. Keep us posted!!

That is so true. I had Cervical Dysplasia and my Dr. didn't even bother with the HPV test. She said it is basically the only cause of Cervical Cancer. Men carry it, and pretty much every woman will get it at some point. It is so common, they are actually vaccinating girls at puberty now. They are calling it the first Cancer vaccine. Good luck Heather! Don't worry too about the colposcopy, even if they do the Biopsy right then, it doesn't hurt. Keep us posted!

Good Luck! It can be a bit scary but for every woman I know that has had HPV including myself it has been fine.

I've had it... or have it - I'm not sure if it has gone away or if it will. My Dr. told me I could take the vaccine for it as well. It's scary hearing about it but my doc has never seem concerned so I guess I never was either...

I had the colposcopy and biopsies yesterday. They took 4 samples and now I get to wait and see. That's the hard part. DH was great and came with me for moral support. I took great comfort knowing some of you had already gone through this and are fine. Thanks for being so willing to post and share!

GOOD NEWS!!! No cancer cells or pre-cancerous cells. I have dysplasia, and they'll do a cryo- freezing of the cervix and I'll be done.

That is GREAT, I am so happy to hear that!!!!
I had Cryo-surgery for more advanced, pre-cancerous form of Dysplasia about 4 years ago. I was so scared - but it really was nothing to be scared about! They will make sure you don't feel a thing - and then before you know it, it's done! I have not had another abnormal pap since.
