I am try to be careful about the products I use to clean my home, especially in the winter, when the doors and windows are locked down tight, and all of the air is being recirculated. DH, OTOH, seems to think that something is not clean unless he can smell a "chemically clean" scent. He thinks I am crazy when I tell him that using a ton of chemicals that permeate the air is worse than dirt!

A few weeks ago, a friend moved, and gave us a huge bag of what I consider "toxic" cleaning products. DH decided to use them, and I got really mad! So, I took them all to the shop, and told him he can use them there, but not at home. Then I went to the store to buy "healthy"cleansers, and the picking was slim! I finally walked out with a few "Method" brand cleaners, but I was very disappointed at the fact that they were twice as much as the "normal brands".

What products have you all found that are safe to use?

I use Method, Seventh Generation and Trader Joe brand cleaners.  I agree that using non-toxic products seems safer, and things still get clean.  I've yet to find a good dishwasher soap, however.

The chemicals in cleaners are numerous. Not to mention the effect the have on our health today and for years to come. These very chemicals have been linked to so many health issues. With the  risk of sounding like I am trying to sell something.. I use Melaleuca products. They are enviromentally sound in ingrediences, and in packaging. They have a cleaner to replace any cleaner you could be using.. and a great dishwasher detergent to. It is part of my side business, I help switch their home to safer, healthier products that work at 30-40% off retail. smile
I find them to be more effective than any "green" products I have used. And I never feel like I have had to settle for less efficacy for  the health of me and my family.

When I was in High School, my Mom had a friend who sold Melaleuca, so she used a lot of their products for awhile. I didn't know they were still around!

What do the cleaning products smell like? Back when my Mom used them they had a strange medicinal smell. I remember her complaining that they were very expensive back then, but I looked at the website, and the prices seem seem pretty good now! I like the bundle of products package they have!

I haven't read the packaging in a while, but Simple Green is a good one; right (?)
