.....a million dollars or more in revenue.

As a female entrepreneur, I was kind of appalled at hearing this news considering that the number of women entrepreneurs is increasing at an extraordinary rate, growing at four times the national pace of business formation between 1997 and 2002. Women owned firms now account for nearly 40 percent of U.S. businesses according to the Center for Women’s Leadership at Babson College http://www3.babson.edu/CWL/research/Myths-and-Realities-of-Women-Entrepreneurs.cfm

Is this just another glass ceiling?

I really believe that better press, increased dialogue and sponsorship—from angel networks to corporations—is the key to establishing a strong women’s network.

And from seeing what the fabulous female entrepreneurs (Sandy Lerner, Cisco; Kay Koplovitz, USA Networks) are doing out there, that change is happening right now.

Let’s discuss, I would love to hear what others have to say about these statistics.  Did they shock you as much as me?

What percent of male-owned businesses have a million dollars or more in revenue, for comparison's sake?

With women at 3%, studies have shown that men have the advantage at 6%, while the numbers may seem small, the numbers don't lie. Which is why I think all women entrepreneurs should come together and lend support and advice for each other. Which is why I think all you ladies out there should check out the Vision to Venture seminar for women owned small businesses, which will give you ladies out there a better idea on how to market your company. Has anyone here had the opportunity to take part of these ground breaking business seminars?

It's a must for everyone starting out their own business. Speakers include Susan Solovic of Small Business TV (SBTV.com). I got to listen to her speech for the seminars, and I found it really informative. Also Karen Dayan of Microsoft, whose blog features highlights and photos from the St. Louis seminar! Simply head on over to  http://myofficelivecommunity.com/discuss/blogs/officelivecommunity/archive/2008/04/04/what-a-day-vision-to-venture-series-kicks-off-in-st-louis.aspx

If you plan on attending, definitely make use of this discount code, since I work with Microsoft, you guys get the inside scoop. It's ATD2041

If you are unable to attend in person, definitely make the effort to catch the webinar! Just go on to http://www.smallbusiness.officelive.com/v2v/
 for more info.

I'd be happy to field any question you all may have
