Welcome to DivaTribe

A diva accepts herself as she is right now and strives to be even better.
She doesn't change who she is to fit someone else's idea of what she ought to be.
She reaches for her own ideal sense of whom she wants to be.

I revealed my debt dollar amount to DH for the first time this weekend, and ya know what?  The Earth didn't open up and swallow me; he didn't immediately ask for a divorce, and I think he was as relieved to know what we are dealing with than I was to know he wasn't making this face:  shocked.  He was so great about it; he knows this is my year for financial fitness and I think knowing the reality of what I'm working on is going to help him help me, KWIM?     This goes along with my 2008 goals, and I'm so happy to be working on it.   yippee

My husband is amazed about how much I owe in student loans, but I look at it as an investment (I've been promoted basically yearly since I got my Master's in '04 and that always included a raise).

It's pretty much the only debt I have, too.  I am planning to really start paying off more then the minimum, because it seems like otherwise, the amount never goes down!

I owe around $70K  eek eek eek eek. There! I revealed it so maybe that will help me make progress!

P.S. I also look at a mortgage as an investment/more "positive" debt because often it works out to be only slightly higher then rent, and you are gaining equity........in many cases, with "rent" it's like throwing that $$$ away (I know in some instances it makes sense to pay rent though!).
