So happy to read your news...  hope you continue to improve.

Unfortunately for me the news wasn't as good as I had hoped - my mri result has picked up a small acoustic neuroma which means my hearing is most definately gone forever and I now have to see a 'more specialist' specialist!  Well at least it is benign......

I am so sorry to hear that.  hug

Knowing that it is an acoustic neuroma, at least you know it is Benign, and that you can get treatment befor it before it steals anything else from you. Plus, there is always the possibility that once it is removed, and the pressure it caused is relieved, you will have some improvement with your hearing. Ironically, after dealing with this, I found out that my cousins - wife's- mother, had one several years ago. She went to John's Hopkin's and had it removed, and afterwards, she actually did regain             about 50% of her hearing.

Have you found a specialist yet? I hope that you can find a finely skilled specialist to do your surgery! Then, after that, find another one for a second opinion! From what I understand there are a lot of risks to consider, and you need to find a surgeon that have the utmost respect and confidence in. I know the medical system is very different where you are,  hopefully that will make it easier for you to find the specialist that you need.

Please keep us posted!  heart

Esperanza,

I am so sorry about your bad news!  I AM glad to hear that the neuroma is benign, though!  I am new to the site (in fact, I only just posted my intro), but your topic was new when I glanced at the list of new posts, and it definitely caught my eye.  I used to sing with a couple of choral groups, and I know that it would be scary to lose hearing, even now (I haven't sung in public in some years).  But, well, I hope that when one door closes, another will open, for you!  Do keep us posted on how you are doing, please. diva love

Thanks for your kind words.  Still trying to come to terms with the little beast.  Have been advised to 'wait and watch' have another MRI in 6 months to see how it performs!

JennR - did the lady you heard about have any usable hearing before she had it removed?    They are saying because mine is gone completely that is it.  Fortunately I have good hearing in the other but it is definately not the same world...  need to allow my brain time to adjust but I just want to regain some normality back....

Thanks again
xx
