Recently, two things reminded me of the book The Millionaire Next Door.  I think I need to re-read it and remind myself of how people who are good with money live their lives.  I think we've talked about the book on the boards before, but wanted to bring it up again.  Anybody else love this book?  Anybody living better because of it?

I read the original edition of it and enjoyed it.  But it's been so long since I read it that I don't remember most of its specific points.

I haven't read the book, but a great deal of my personal finance blogs talk about this concept and it makes sense.

Actually, Redbook also had a great article this month about the importance of "living on less and saving more".

One simple trick that works for me is to do automatic savings.  I have a certain amount moved to a savings account that doesn't get touched.  The amount I'm currently setting aside means that even though we are making more money this year, it doesn't feel like that much more because we are saving more too.  I have ING savings set up, and it's easy to have money moved every month automatically.

The point is that I save first and make sure that I save what I want to save and have to live off the rest.

Yup.  That's great.  I don't do automatic savings, but I pay off all my bills, leave a certain amount in checking and everything else goes to savings.  I also have set up a Christmas/vacation savings account.
