Welcome to DivaTribe

A diva accepts herself as she is right now and strives to be even better.
She doesn't change who she is to fit someone else's idea of what she ought to be.
She reaches for her own ideal sense of whom she wants to be.
She's strong; she's courageous; she's creative.

Hi everyone!  I am in my early 30's and live on Long Island, NY. I work in NYC. I'm a social worker in my professional life. Just got married a few weeks ago, have 2 cats and a pug.

Latest drama:

I may possibly be losing my job.  I was recruited by a friend to work for his company a few months ago, and little did I know the mess I was walking into. He got fired and so did everyone else he had hired before me.  We've hired a whole new team and done a ton of clean up since that time, but it seems too late and that the state wants to shut us down.

We were in the process of buying a house, and that just fell through, so I think that may be a blessing in disguise!

I am just looking to make new friends and join a supportive community!

Yup, I definitely have options at least.  I have been sending my resume out like crazy and lots of people have contacted me to set up interviews.

It just sucks because I don't want to be without health benefits again, and my husband, who hasn't had them in years, was about ready to go on them.  COBRA/paying for our own plan is super expensive here (it's like over $1000 a month!).

It just sucks that state of the healthcare system in our country. I find it pretty sad and pathetic that I work in the healthcare field and may need to go without healthcare because we can't afford it!

Hi! It is nice to "meet" you!  smile flower

I can totally relate to what you said about healthcare and insurance. That is a major issue for me as well. My husband and I own our own business and he has not had health coverage since we opened. DH has a "pre-existing condition" (back injury from a car accident 6 years ago) so he is "unisurable" by a non-group program, and we are too small of a business to qualify for any group programs.

We have insurance for our 2 children through a special program which offers discount rates to uninsured families (a program that Bush is trying to cut.)

I recently dropped my $500/per month individual policy because it is cheaper for me to pay out of pocket for Dr. visits and medications, but I live in constant fear of something big happening.

Anyway, I didn't mean to steal your post, but can relate, and look forward to more discussions with you!   smile

Thanks for the welcome! Yes, the state of our healthcare system really is a crisis. I feel so bad too because my husband especially is in a very dangerous business (construction) so anything bad can happen to him.

The fact that I may lose my job as well, has caused us to put off having kids for awhile longer.........and neither one of us is getting younger........

So what is the history of this forum? How long has it been up and running?  Have any of you met before IRL?

This site started in late 2001.  Lara and I started it.  We'd met when we were both posting at another site and decided we wanted to create something different from what was already out there.  Some of us know each other in real life - there are some long histories here in fact, for a few members, including one very random reunion!

The boards have never been super busy, but they've always been very friendly.
