Do you like receiving gift cards as gifts?  Do you ever give gift cards as gifts?

I like them.  My grandparents will often give me one to a bookstore, and it's fun to be able to go choose exactly what I want.  They'll sometimes do this for DD and DH as well.  I don't usually give them as gifts, but I'm thinking of doing this for my nephew.  He's recently moved out of his dad's house, so I was thinking a card to Bed Bath and Beyond or something similar might be useful for him.

I LOVE them!  I'm so incredibly fussy about gifts, unfortunetely.  I think gift cards are the greatest invention!  big grin

I like giftcards as well. We ended up getting a bunch for our wedding/showers so I have them in our safe. When we get a house, they will come in really handy to purchase things we may have forgot to put on our registry, or other things that come up!

I also often give them as gifts, as well.

I did this for a recent baby shower I went to and the mom-to-be thought this was a great idea.  I also have given for wedding showers.

I do like them, however, if I can't spend them online and have stuff delivered it's hard to find time to specifically go to that store and then, when I do, I have to hope that 1) I remembered to put the card in my purse and 2) I don't forget to use it at checkout!  hammer

I love them! had to get a present for someone at work and all I knew was that they liked music and movies so i got them one for Best Buy. With a gift card I don't have to worry about them getting something they don't like!

I read a report of the worst gifts and gift cards were 1 of them.

I disagree.  I can understand that they may seem impersonal but I'd rather someone get what THEY want than not enjoy something they receive.

I know that DD loves them, to her they are 2 gifts in 1.  Not only does she receive something but then she gets to spend the time with me (or her dad or friends) going shopping to pick out what she wants.  It really empowers her to make decisions (which is a trip in itself... wowsers she can take forever weighing choices... lol).  Plus a coffee and a hot chocolate later it's quite satisfying!

On the flip side I don't really like the visa gift cards.  They end up collecting dust in my pocketbook because I'm never quite sure how/when to use them and after a certain amount of time they actually charge you a monthly fee.  I found that out last year because I was holding off using them until I had a tight month to buy gas and groceries and I'd already lost 20% of the amount Sad
