Affinity Bank has a kids\' only savings account that pays an APY of 10% for the first $500 in the account!  While they are based in California, I believe you can set it up online and then mail in your initial depositl.  I set one up today for DD.  And remember that kids\' interest income up to $700 (I believe) is not taxed.    money

That\'s an excellent return for a savings account.

I figured out that at my bank (which is paying less than 1% on savings) I earn about 10 cents per month on a $500 balance.

I do better for myself keeping an eye out for dropped pennies on the ground each month.  rolleyes  And to think that so many people think so little of pennies these days.  It all adds up.

Will the account that you opened continue to pay 10% on the first $500 each year?

What\'s the interest rate on the rest of the balance?

Any limits as to how much can accumulate there?

What happens when DD is older than their \'kids only\' rate allows for?

each year? - I believe so.  I\'m going to take out all but the initial $500 once a year and invest it elsewhere.

What\'s the interest rate on the rest of the balance? - paltry - like less than 1%.

Any limits as to how much can accumulate there? - I don\'t think so, but see answer #1.

What happens when DD is older than their \'kids only\' rate allows for? - I don\'t know - we\'ll have to cross that bridge when we get to it.
