I finally (after 2 1/2 months!)  shocked went to get the results of my pap smear... they weren\'t too great, either! First, I have an infection - antibiotics prescribed - and, second, there is metaplasia - meaning some cells look atypical...so, I\'m scheduled for a colposcopy (sp?) on Dec 3rd to see whether the atypical cells are merely a reflection of the infection or, if they might actually be mutating, in which case, the Dr. would do a biopsy to determine whether the cells are pre-cancerous or not...If yes, they\'ll do a criotherapy - freeze those \"mutants\"!...  hammer
I\'m having it done at the charity clinic - they have much better care than the Social Security Institute! ....If they only do the colposcopy, I\'ll pay $15, if they do the biopsy, I\'ll pay an additional $12....if they have to do the criotherapy, that\'s another $15....I cannot imagine what this would cost at my Dr\'s, but, just to give you an idea, I paid $3.29 for the consultation and the pap smear, whereas at my Dr\'s I would have paid $30 for a consultation + pap smear...of which the medical insurance would have repaid about $10!  mad  hammer
I hate this insurance...I only keep it in case Ale gets sick, and has to go to the hospital - or in case I get sick enough to be admitted to a hospital! - if I ever get cut up, I want MY Doctor to do it!! tongue  eek

Marissa, I had the same thing a few years ago! It was a little further advanced by the time I got the colposcopy, so I ended up having a LEEP instead of the cryo.

It was really scary because at the time I had just met my half sister and found out that she had cervical cancer when she was 21!

But, it all worked out! I have been having pap smears every 6 months since to keep it in check, and after my latest one was still clean, they said I can now go back to yearly exams!

Take some Ibruprofin (not Asperin) before the colposcopy, it can be uncomfortable.

Good luck! smile flower

I went there and had to wait for about 1 hour to see the doctor...she\'s very nice and explained the procedure and was very gentle...it was still uncomfortable - it doesn\'t really \"hurt\", as they put in some sort of local anesthesia (sp?)...she did take some tissue for biopsy and I have to go there again next Thursday for the results...if they are \"clean\", all I have to do is my annual pap next year...if not, they\'ll do the criotherapy on the spot...so, back to waiting again!!

that\'s great news!  I had to have a coloscopy a few months ago as well and it came back negative.  It was a scary and uncomfortable time and I recommend NOT reading up about it on the internet while waiting for results Wink
