 sad

Does feeling the need to just get away from everything ever overcome you? I understand that everyone needs some "me time" every once in a while, but I've been finding myself reviewing all my travel rewards and joining as many travel-related contests as I can, just hoping and praying for tickets I can use as a vacation from family.

Just yesterday I called into free411.com even if I didn't need to at all just because they were awarding tickets to random callers in april. I just wanted to get away so badly. I'm kind of worried that I'm falling into a depression, or worse, falling out with my own family. Am I being selfish? What should I do?

You're right - everyone needs "me" time.  How much I guess depends on each person, and if you're not getting any it's easy to feel smothered or lost or overwhelmed.  If it were me, I'd take a good hard look at my values and priorities, and try to see how I'm spending my time compared to what I need to feel satisfied.  hug

I agree with Jen. This is also another reason why I am starting to research other fields to work in.

I am a social worker/run a large human services program, and feel like I have no life but that during the week.

I feel like I leave for work super early, and by the time I get home, want to just crawl into bed and go to sleep!

I'm also tired of dealing with others problems, and a system in general that doesn't support me/my clients.

no. You need a vacation. Maybe nothing as drastic as 2 weeks without family....but, surely, you should allocate AT LEAST 2 hours/week to "You"...make it an appointment with yourself, and KEEP IT...even if just to go to the park by yourself and watch the birds!....I was feeling a bit like that yesterday...I left my daughter with sis and went to the grocery store for a couple of things I needed...just that 1 hour away from everybody helped!
Good luck!

Hi Swansong - Would you believe it - I use to get up at 3 in the morning when my boys were 1yr.and 5yrs.old just so I could have time for myself to do art. Or, stay up past midnight after they were asleep.... I did have an "out" at that time - although my husband had to be "broken in " on the idea,so to speak. My folks lived 2 hrs. away so every so often I would go all by my self to visit( It was wonderful!). Although my boys are grown (there is a light at the end of the tunnel) I still get up at 6am to just read or think with my coffee. You can only give what you feel inside, and if you feel like you're choking inside, you can't give much..... Please find ways to give to yourself, there is always an answer!
