Title: Refrigerator Balls for produce Post by: Jen on June 29, 2008, 07:59:28 PM On a whim, I bought three of these "fridge balls" to see if they actually help produce last longer in the produce drawers of the refrigerator. Supposedly they absorb gas that leads to food rotting sooner. I'll let you know what I think after I've had them for a few weeks. My MIL has the "green bags" for storing produce - I'll see what she has to say about those, too, and report back. :thumb:
Title: Re: Refrigerator Balls for produce Post by: JennR on June 30, 2008, 09:58:14 AM I am curious to hear if those work - it would be great if they did! The local news here has a segment called "Does it really do that?" and profiled the bags - they turned out just to be a gimmick - they actually caused some items to spoil faster! Oh well!
This time of year, with the kids out of school, I have to worry more about keeping the fridge stocked vs. things spoiling anyway! :P Title: Re: Refrigerator Balls for produce Post by: Jen on June 30, 2008, 12:48:42 PM My strawberries seem to be hanging in there longer than expected, but one experiment isn't really proof. ;) I'll have to talk to my MIL and see how she likes those bags she bought.
Title: Re: Refrigerator Balls for produce Post by: HeatherH on June 30, 2008, 01:59:38 PM My mom has those green bags and loves them. I purchased a new Tupperware line designed for the same purpose and it works GREAT! There are vents on the side of the tupperware and it has a ridged bottom. There is a list of fruits and veggies on the side of the container that indicates whether you open one vent, both vents, or no vents for that particular produce. I am loving them! :yipee:
Title: Re: Refrigerator Balls for produce Post by: JennR on July 13, 2008, 05:35:54 PM What is the line of Tupperware called? I would love to try it!
Jen - how did the fridge balls work out? Has your MIL said anything about the bags? It would be so cool if any of those products works - I hate it when produce goes bad in the fridge! Title: Re: Refrigerator Balls for produce Post by: Jen on July 13, 2008, 07:33:49 PM I think the balls might actually be helping. I had some strawberries last longer than they normally might in the fridge. I haven't asked my MIL but I will.

Most of my decent size Tupperware containers have "gone missing" and need replaced now anyway!
