We are the proud owners of some new landscaping int he form of six new fruit trees on our property!  We now have peach, plum, apricot, loquat, apple and lemon trees, in addition to our very well-established orange tree.  A former student of ours is in the business of permaculture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permaculture) design and has helped us set up a gray water system off our washing machine and planned the landscaping and plants accordingly.  It's very cool!  :yipee:  We'll add in a few more plants down the road, but this is an exciting start for us, and one that's very sustainable too.  :thumb:

That is awesome! I love growing edible trees, bushes and plants.

We are in the midst of some new landscaping, and I really want to learn more about permaculture and find more ways to integrate our landscape. It is a little more challenging here, due to the winter season.

We trans-planted a nice pear tree from my Mom & Dad's 3 years ago, and I think we might get our first fruit this year. We have our friend who is an Arbor on the lookout for a nice cherry tree to replace the one that got hit by lightening last summer.

In your climate, how long will it be until the trees mature enough to produce fruit?

I'm not sure, although the apple tree already has fruit set on it. :D  I don't think it will take long, honestly. 

We want to add berries, a pineapple guava and who knows what else down the road on the hillside.

We still need to get abut 4" of mulch spread around everything, and then this part of the project will be done.

We are planning on planting a raspberry bush in the back corner of our yard this year, and we are finally putting in a small vegetable garden on the side of the house, near the kitchen. We have the bed ready, but are waiting 2 more weeks to ensure we are past the danger of frost. (it is actually supposed to drop to 40 overnight this week! :eek:)

We spent all day today cleaning out the flower-beds, and now need to oder a bunch of mulch too!

Congrats on the new trees!  I see some really yummy homemade fruit pies in your future!  ;-)

We've got a list now of the next round of plants, so we'll get going on that soon.  Good stuff!
