Title: How did you exercise this week? Post by: Jen on April 05, 2008, 04:19:14 PM We haven't checked in with a physical fitness post in a while, so I thought I'd start one. How'd you get yourself moving this week?
I took a couple of walks with DD and walked with her while she rode her bike. I also took seven ballet classes over the past two weeks (counting one private lesson), which was awesome!! :yipee: Wish I could keep up that kind of schedule all year! It's been a bad week for it (with after-hours meetings, a concert, etc), but I could always come up with excuses. I need to get more motivated. That's one of the reasons I joined this site! :-) I'm doing pretty well with my eating habits, but I HATE working out. I'll get started for a while and then let it slide again. I need to stay focused, no matter how much I dislike it. I read an article on Prevention that sums it up for me: I don't need to "love" working out, but I need to fall in "like" with it, enough to keep doing it. Any suggestions? Post by: Jen on April 30, 2008, 01:34:04 PM I find that I feel better when I'm getting regular exercise (and regular sleep, nutrition, etc...) and that when I fall off the exercising wagon how I feel starts declining. Vicious cycle! I track my activity with a pedometer, and there is definitely a connection between my more sedentary days and the tension I feel in my neck, shoulders and back.
This week I went to ballet on Monday and will go again tonight. I can't go Friday due to another commitment, unfortunately. Title: Re: How did you exercise this week? It's a good workout and it's fun! :yipee: That is so funny! We got the boys an X-Box for Christmas, so other family members bought them gift certificates for the game store. We were there, picking out games, and I tried persuade them to get that, stating it would be great, fun, exercise! Unfortunately, they all laughed at me. DS played it in school music class, and said I would wind up tripping face first in to the tv trying to keep up with it. I took two classes last week. This week I can't take any, and I'll have to miss class next M and W as well! Bummer! I have a stretching video on the way from amazon that I'm eager to try out. I only missed 1 day of training (for happy hour)...but I did hike 4 miles on my off day...can that count? :diva:

This week I had carpet cleaners coming on Wednesday so Tuesday I moved all of the moveable furniture out of the front of the apartment and then Wednesday put it back! I say that definitely counts, lol. Tonight, though, I guess it's back to the stationery bike!

I felt stiff and out of shape - it's amazing how quickly everything leaves and how long it takes to build it back up. My plan for July is to take class as often as I can and do my stretching or other videos on the off days, aiming for five days a week of activity. I'm curious to see if four weeks of concerted effort makes any noticeable difference, particularly in my flexibility.

I think one of my evening classes is being canceled. :( We'll see what happens. I heard about a Saturday morning class that might not be too hard for me, but that studio is closed for a month (or the summer even, not sure). Maybe in the fall I can give that one a try.

Once August rolls around I may be able to increase things again, and I also scheduled a private with one of my teaches for later in August, to wrap up the summer. I'm taking class Friday and may try a new class on Wednesday. I was going to try it last week but ended up not going. I'd like to have three classes to count on so that in busier weeks I can at least get to one or two of them.

It can't always be like that (I can't go to class this coming Wednesday, for example) but it was great to have a full week. :diva:

I think being back to work wore me out mentally! :O I'll go back to class this Friday - have to miss Wednesday's class for a work obligation.

The other fun thing I've been doing recently is a wonderful class that my local yoga studio offers on Friday evenings that's a restorative yoga session. It focuses on gentle stretching and relaxing meditations. A beautiful way to end the week. :)

Post by: Jen on November 11, 2008, 03:11:06 PM October was my best month yet for ballet classes- I took more classes than in any other month this year (or ever, maybe!). November has gotten off to a pretty good start, too, and I'm feeling pretty good about my progress. It (the progress) is very slow, but I think I'm making some improvements. My balance is improving visibly some nights, and that feels great.

I jogged for an entire hour in the park and then a ton of crunches and finished off with some relaxing Yoga. To reward myself with my fitness efforts, I bought myself a gorgeous diamond necklace from www.idonowidont.com and watched reruns of gossip girl. So I would say it was a great day, plus all this fitness is helping me fit into my new dress I got! Title: Re: How did you exercise this week?
