Title: homework a-la Art Attack!
Post by: miclason on March 25, 2008, 03:55:09 PM
Ale has two homework projects that could be really- really fun and artsy:

1. she has to write and illustrate a story (and she has to record on tape, too!- yes, they specified "tape")

2. She has to make an album with riddles, tonguetwisters, poems (coplas) and proverbs (3 of each)...

we want to make these two projects "shine"...

She says she already has the idea for the story: our new red fish (we bought it to liven up our fish tank....we had ~32 silver fish!)...so, I thought she could do the illustrations in crayons and then paint over the fish/ tank scene with blue watercolors...

For the album, we have already looked up the definitions of , riddle, tonguetwister, coplas and proverbs (I insist she include definitions on every homework, even if she is familiar with the concept- like last week, when I made her look up Fauna and Flora)...we have also decided on a "book" with cardboard covers and a page to separate each section...the front of the tonguetwister section will have a frog extending its tongue to catch a fly....with the tongue made of yarn and spelling Tonguetwister in cursive...for the riddles, we will have two people, one with a call-out with "code" spelling RIDDLES and laughing while the other one looks on and a thought call-out with a "?"
We did find a lot of coplas on line and I let Ale choose 7 (she then has to choose 3 out of those)- making sure they were age appropriate, though!

I was thinking of using mostly recycled materials to put it all together...the binding will be made from a discarded cardboard box I "rescued" at work... we will probably use papier mache to give it some texture...I have plenty of yarns, magazines, glue, creayons, watercolors and glitter glue already on hand...and we have 12 days for the story and 3 weeks for the album...

Now, this is a LANGUAGE assignment, not an art one, so I want to make sure that we cover the CONTENT first!

She already picked 7 riddles, as well - that she found in her school agenda- and now she has to decide on the 3 that would be easier to illustrate...

Any ideas that could help us??

Thanks!

Sounds adorable, how did the project turn out?
